These are probably of more use to you than I. Whitworth tap and die set, do you want it?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Looks high quality but it would probably cost more than that to ship across the pond.

I figured that would be the case, but I have no idea how available Whitworth/BSW stuff is over there.

Virtually non-existent.

Confirming my suspicions.

Indeed, especially for 25 bob. Do you need some?

Tempting, but it looks like one can get a set for $50 off ebay.

It’s odd I’ve never much thought about getting a set before.

That sounds like a lot of Bobs.

old tools in wood cases, very appealing!
my tap and die set is fairly garbage, and in a crappy plastic case. But get the job done, for those two times a year I need em.

25 of them, in fact. Although I have seen more.

Cool. Somehow I get all excited whenever I find Whitworth sockets and wrenches. A tap and die set? Awesome! But fortunately I’ve had no need for them yet.

What’s 25 bob worth these days? A dinner out?
![]() 03/01/2016 at 16:25 |

For one, maybe. I would consider it a good round at the pub, 25 bob is a good 7 pints.

I recently acquired an “I fart in your general direction” T-shirt, on a related note.

I want an Oppo selfie with you wearing it in front of the Mercguarchero.

Technically no, my dad has all of my grandpa’s Whitworths so this would be more of a novelty purchase... however...

As long as they work! Not much more you can ask of a tool.

things can be both functional AND pretty :D

Can probably be arranged at some point. Maybe if I make a little more progress and pretty it all up for sending in to Patrick George for his projects series. Funny story on English currency, actually - remember when I was with you and hit up the corner store ATM? I went absolutely out of my mind because I was ten pounds short not long after, but I found it later on in the pocket of my shirt, after I’d got back to the states. So, I’ve got a Liz-faced English bill that’s been living in my wallet ever since.

Name dropping like a true thespian.
You should pop old Lizzie in between a couple of sheets of perspex and bring her out onto the table for whenever you’re having tea and scones. Likewise when you're at the pub you can turn it around and have a pint with Charles Darwin.

I’ve also got a Chinese bill in my wallet, which I accidentally pulled out instead of a tenner when getting food at Brands Hatch. Made a total idiot of myself with that one.

Yeh, Mao’s Burger Palace shut down a few years ago and the currency has devalued rapidly. I’m surprised the rat van owner didn’t offer you a Chelsea Grin for his troubles. As an American visiting England, why have you got a Chinese tenner in your back pocket?
![]() 03/01/2016 at 17:08 |

It was still in my pocket from the
last
proper overseas trip. Obviously. In fairness it was less a rat van and more a bunch of ladies with coffees and waffles, so probably a dash less disposed to violence. Of course, I used to have a North Korean bill in my wallet for giggles (long story), but that and the Euros haven’t been in my wallet in ages.
